Drive-by Mirror
Down here on Earth driving is a bore, Everything in her life feels like a chore. One hand on the wheel, One hand on her cancer; When she gets to Heaven, She wants to be a dancer. Red streak in her hair to prove she's a rebel, Living without melody, All bass and no treble. Stuck in a rut and going nowhere, Fronting to the world like she doesn't care. She ain't stupid, no, she's clever as a fox. She had dreams, but now they're tucked in a box. Someday she'll dig them out - At least that's what she tells herself. Life can feel cruel if you leave your soul on a shelf. The face of okay is a rep that she's faking, While deep down inside, her heart is breaking. Just drove right passed me out there on the street, Eyes of sadness and shoulders of defeat. At first I judged, but then I wrote, Discovered observation was giving me a note. She was in the world in that moment I saw her, But if I'm being honest, she looks like a mirror. The here and now is a lonely road. The curse I bear is I can carry this load. But I have dreams that I have shelved too. One way or another I'm pushing through. So many forsake sunshine to lament rain. There is more to life than living for pain. I don't know how I'll do it, but I will win this fight, Get out of this rut and get myself right. I will look to my memories and see what I find, She drove by as a mirror and I got shot in the mind.
